These are the topics covered in the course in the order they are presented:

General Knowledge

A written essay-style exam is administered to measure the
individual's overall knowledge of safe driving practices.

V ehicle familiarization and pre-trip inspections

Each driver will be required to demonstrate their practical knowledge under the direction of a Certified Trainer in doing a pre-trip inspection on a fleet vehicle.

Backing and maneuvering a fleet vehicle in limited areas

The driver will be required to display their abilities and skills in backing their
fleet vehicle through a series of cones and obstacles. In addition, they
will be required to maneuver their vehicle through a series of forward
motion obstacles.

Roadways

Drivers will be required to drive a predetermined road course, which will present a series of events to measure driving ability, driving skills, and the ability to make sound and logical decisions.

Off-road (If Appropriate)

From the seat of the simulator, drivers will experience off-road driving with related conditions.

Winter and inclement weather

Drivers will be placed in situations and road conditions with adverse weather, including snow, ice, wind, and rain in the virtual world of simulation.

Hazard avoidance

From the seat of a simulator, drivers will experience hazards which would normally be too dangerous to duplicate in real world situations.

Sharing the road

Aggressive drivers, road rage situations, unforeseen hazards, emergency reaction, speed, and space management decision making skills are monitored in simulation scenarios.

Simulations are used to measure the driver's skills utilizing the very latest FAAC Model 1000 simulator.

This course provides accurate, up-to-date knowledge, skills, techniques and real world tools that every driver can take away with them. Dynamic PowerPoint presentations will bring high definition digital graphics to the course.

Certified Trainers with years of driving experience conduct the course using handout materials, self-evaluations, and a final written exam are used. Student participation assures that the classes are interactive and engaging.

At the conclusion of the course, each student completes an evaluation that is used for course improvement. A "Certificate of Completion" is presented to students satisfactorily completing the course. Grades, performance charts, and recommendations on all participants are promptly posted on our secure web reporting site at www.ushighwaysafety.com .

Upon completion of the evaluation, each driver spends time with their trainer to review their skills, critique their techniques, and discuss their attitudes towards their driving.

Any students who appear to pose a safety risk will be reported immediately to their direct supervisors. Recommendations for assisting the driver will be provided.
