Defensive driving for police officers differs from traditional defensive driving. Civilians react differently to police vehicles, and police officers need to be aware of how to react.

The course includes interactive and engaging classroom and simulator-based training. The Center for Transportation Safety uses

 

police car specific simulators, complete with lights and sirens. The simulator puts the officer driver in situations that are too dangerous or difficult to do on the street. Traffic in the scenarios can be programmed to act and react normally or abnormally at the request of the instructor.
